Here it comes, girls and boys, and creatures! Order online on the 16th, in shops from the 30th.

This is bad, very bad, very bad indeed.

On my shopping list for the 16th:

  1. Soul Wars Starter set
  2. GHB 2018
  3. Malign Sorcery Box
  4. Objective markers set
  5. Terrain dice set
  6. Command dice set

I'll probably be looking at 300+ € for all of that. I wonder how I am going to slip that one past the misses.

As always, all my best to you and your loved ones and keep hobbying!

I'd normally have things shipped to work, but can't see that one working out for you, Ralph 😀

Yeah, that won't work... unfortunately. Maybe I'll stagger it out over two or three months.

I could also just buy the models and the book separately. I'll need to work that out, when they actually announce pricing. We'll see. But I'll start going on a diet, that's for sure, to save on groceries and have extra funds to fuel the plastic addiction.  ?

I guess it all depends on what you want from the box. If you are interested in all those models, then getting them bundled with the book and other extras will most likely make the financial sense. So I guess you could get the starter box first, get familiar with what's there and then get the other stuff, as you say, one , two months down the line.

You and me, Lord. You and me.

Well, I play SC and love them, so the SC models are a must and so is the book, but I am not overly fuzzed with the Nighthaunt, because I don't play them and for the time being don't plan on starting an army. The core rules will be free to download as a PDF and everything else that is in the box is an add on. I guess I will still get the box though and maybe sell the Nighthaunt models on. The rest will probably be staggered. I think that we will see a price of about 120- 140 pound Sterling for the starter, so that is pretty steep.

By the way... Here's your list of factions that will not get a Battletome (nor a Battletome update)  ?

That's me guessing based on that:

Finally, for every kind of gamer, the General’s Handbook 2018 contains a new set of rules for summoning for every army that used it before, as well as allegiance abilities for every faction that was featured last year – for reference, that’s:

  • Darkling Covens
  • Dispossessed
  • Free Peoples
  • Fyreslayers
  • Seraphon
  • Wanderers
  • Brayherds
  • Slaanesh
  • Slaves to Darkness
  • Skaven Pestilens
  • Skaven Skryre
  • Flesh-eater Courts
  • Ironjawz

I'm pretty sure these are the factions that had rules updates in the last year's GHB and they either have Compendiums only or, like Fyreslayers, un-updated Battletome. Allegiance abilities would be included in a Battletome if one was forthcoming.

Additionally, that could also indicate that the armies, who do not have any summoning abilities, are not getting any equivalents. As the Oompa Troompa would say: Sad.

You and me, Lord. You and me.

Alright, I see what you mean. Well. At least it is clear that summoning will only be for armies,m that already had that ability, but in the Stormcast episode 3 they said that they would introduce thematic abilities for armies that did not to either mitigate summoning or create an equivalent. SC could maybe have deep strike capabilities linked to a command ability or something like that. Again we don't know.

I take this article not so much in the sense of that they will not get an update to the battle tome, if they had one, or not get a battle-tome at all, but more in the sense of we'll get all the factions something on release of AoS2 to level the playing field somewhat.

The new factions (DoK, Deepkin) and new release for the Nighthaut were being rumoured for months before the were announced. The only thing from this list I'd heard any rumours about so far is Slaanesh (potentially this autumn). Now, if Dispossessed or the Skaven were to get a proper Battletome, knowing how big the expectations are an how major releases would those have to be, I think something would have leaked by now. The Fyreslayers have a Battletome, but it's missing the Runes. Those were added in the GHB. If they're mentioned as being updated in the new GHB again, it pretty sure means they are not getting their Battletome updated. So yeah, it's piecing things together, and to be honest I would LOVE to be wrong on that, but when you look at Wanderers, for example, they shouldn't even exist as a separate faction. The fact that they're on the list here indicates that GW is not planning to do anything about that in the near future. This whole list is for me a list of 'factions to leave as they are, until we can be arsed to sort them out'.

You and me, Lord. You and me.

Maybe you are right.

However I did hear that Seraphon would get some love in 2019. Maybe the same is true for other factions on the list. And btw I agree with the Wanderers and the same is true for me for Slaves to Darkness, but that is a different subject. For now all GW is saying really is that those factions that do not have summoning on the agenda get updates in the GHB 2018 with something, bear in mind that it will be released at the same time as AoS2 and the rest. Nothing stops GW from creating or updating Batte-tomes later or even next year or in 2020 for that matter. It's just not on the agenda yet or maybe never will be. That's up to GW.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. Since we're getting an updated GHB every year, I mean that what's included in this one, stays valid for this year.

Aha! It gets addressed in the new podcast. It's the armies that don't have summoning* that apparently are getting the points reduction.

Oh... And the Core Rules are now 18 pages long O_O Someone's been getting too liberal on the ice cream, eh?

*unless you're Sylvaneth. They get both  ?

I dont know that it will be on release day, but I'll certainly get it in the not too distant future... should tide me over until new Space Wolves... As for army.. I dont know I like some of the Stormcast models, I like some of the Khorne models and well I really like the MawKrusha model... hmmmm
