Welcome to the WargamerOnline Forum
Well..... who would have guessed it. The announcement of 40kopoly last week seems to have split the YouTube community with some praising it (I seem to recall Valrak saying he's looking forward to playing it with his kids) and others being less happy about it.
Much like the series of childrens books coming out which generated a lot of negativity within the gaming community, my opinion on the subject is if you don't like it, don't buy it.
It doesn't (in my opinion) take anything away from the hobby. If anything it's making the brand more visible and will hopefully bring more people into the hobby. More players = more revenue = more investment into the hobby to make it better for everyone.
What are everyone else's feelings? Let's keep it friendly 🙂
It's hard not to draw a parallel with The Last Jedi strong feelings among the fans (or are they?). There will always be people, who enjoy their hobby, their geeky niches and so on, and just have fan. And there will also be those, who think that since they're investing their time and passion, they own every right to decide what is OK and what's not, in the franchise.
The big problem today, is the snowball effect that the Internet allows for. Geeks don't just get angry about any old stupid s**t in their bedrooms, to throw their toys against the wall, they go global, immediately resonating with like-minded individuals.
As for the Monopoly, I like my GW with a pinch of sense of humour. And I think that 40K, being probably the most recognisable Warhammer brand, lends itself perfectly to such marketing. I won't buy it, I'm not interested at all myself, but why not? The idea IS funny, go for it.
You and me, Lord. You and me.
Personally I'm gonna hold off and wait for WGO Monopoly. I can picture it now, a salt shaker, Magic Mikes rusty spoons, Rachel's empty wine glass, Phil's beard, Pinks glasses and Jacks....well we will have to work that one out.
I can see the cards already. 'Play a 30th birthday special against your wife and use up all your salt, go back 3 spaces' or how about 'exotic dancer corpses found in your wall, go to jail' and Phil's favorite, 'meet a strange lady while waiting in a line who can not stop talking about your beard, miss a turn'....
it's got potential guys!
